Basic White Bread
1 1/4 cups water
2 tablespoons powdered milk
2 tablespoons oil (l usually use canola)
1 teaspoon salt
3 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 1/4 teaspoon yeast
Put the wet ingredients in the pan first and then add the dry ones. This is delicious with butter and honey while it is still hot.
Grain & Honey Bread
3/4 cup warm water
2 tablespoons honey (liquid or melted)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (mixed grain flower is OK too)
1/2 cup rolled oats
2 teaspoons granulated yeast
Put the salt in the bread machine first, then add all other ingredients except the yeast, oats and flour. Add the oats and flour. Make a small hole at the top of the dry ingredients for the yeast and drop it in. Bake as usual.
Cheesy Buttermilk Bread
This yields a moist and tasty loaf. It also stores very well, but you’ll probably finish it before that even matters!
1 and 1/8 cups buttermilk
1 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons sugar
.75 cup extra sharp chedder (grated)
3 cups bread flour
1.5 teaspoons bread machine yeast
Prepare as usual. All wet ingredients first, then the cheese, then dry ingredients, and the yeast on top.
Use natural rolled oats. Just put them in a pot with boiling water, and then let them soak until they cool off. Add the other ingredients and proceed as usual.

Use the ‘French Bread’ cycle (if your bread maker has it) or use the normal ‘White Bread’ cycle.

After you have successfully selected the Best Bread Maker that matches your needs, it is not time for your fist loaf. When you read some of the comments in Amazon, you’ll learn that the first loaf can be a tricky one.
Many users complain about the bread maker but often it is the user who didn’t follow the proper process. To spare you some disappointment, I’d like to share some tips and tricks when you’re making your first loaf. I have learned it the hard way and failed a few loafs…
We’ll start with one of the simplest bread making recipes; a 2 pound white bread. The aim is to get the basics right before we move on to the more advanced loafs.
Step 1: Get the ingredients ready;
- Water 1 1/3 cups
- Oil (I use Canola & Sunflower Oil) 3 Tablespoons

- Salt 1 Teaspoon
- Milk powder 2 Tablespoons
- High protein flour 4 1/3 cups
- Active dry yeast 1 ½ Teaspoon
Step 2: Fill the Baking pan with all ingredients
Stop! Don’t dump everything in the pan, you’ll have to follow a sequence;
The liquids first; Water and Oil
Secondly; Sugar, Salt and Milk powder.
If your bread maker has one kneading paddle, make sure that you create a pyramid of flour (see image below). This will assure that all flour is kneaded. And please do stay accurate with your measurments.
Last but definite not least; Yeast.
It is very important to keep the yeast separate from any liquids, sugar or salt. Yeast will react with any of these. This is especially recommended when you use the timer to program a fresh loaf in the morning.
Put everything in the bread maker and select the bread cycle of your choice. I like to you’re the ‘French bread cycle’ as I love a hard crust. Choose what you prefer!

I have provided instructions on how to easily make this sandwich bread, bread machine recipe or how you can use your regular conventional oven to achieve the same results. For those without a best bread machine, you’ll be wise to use a large food processor or a stand mixer with a dough blade, for kneading the dough as the dough can be very thick.
You can yogurt to your bread ingredients as it helps to keep it moist and nice for days, but it’s not actually needed to get the most delicious sandwich bread. Before you begin, you do need a well made measuring cup, a teaspoon, a tablespoon, a baking thermometer, and try your best to stick to the exact amount of the ingredients.
Sandwich Bread Ingredients:
1/4 cup – of extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon – of apple cider vinegar
2 large eggs
2 3/4 cups – Jules Gluten Free All-Purpose Flour
2 teaspoons – of agave nectar or honey
1 1/4 cup – of plain yogurt. You can use non-dairy or dairy. OR you can use Milk, but stay away from Skim Milk
1/2 teaspoon – of baking soda
2 teaspoons – of baking powder, gluten-free
1/4 – of cup flax seed meal
1/2 cup – of millet flour. (You can also almond, buckwheat or brown rice flour)
1/4 cup – of dry milk powder (dairy or non-dairy, any would do)
1 teaspoon – of sea salt
1 teaspoon – of granulated cane sugar
1 tablespoon – of bread machine yeast or rapid rise yeast, gluten free
1 Tablespoon – of sesame seeds or flaxseeds
1 Tablespoon – of coarse sea salt
Sandwich Bread Machine Recipe: Baking Directions for those with a Bread Maker
The first thing to do is to soak your flax seed meal in water for about 10-14 minutes before adding.
You need to Whisk the eggs – making sure the yolk and whites are perfectly blended together.
You can now add all the liquid ingredients into the bread machine pan. (Better to have them all in room temperature if you can)
Now you can combine all the dry ingredients (except the yeast) before adding them to the top of the liquids in the baking pan.
Try to create a well in the center of all the added ingredients, and then put in your yeast.
In your bread machine settings, select Gluten free bread option or just the setting that gives you just one rise cycle with no punch down.
By now, once the ingredients have been properly mixed together, you’ll notice the dough is very thick. If you find that the dough is too thick, you can add some yogurt (one tablespoon at a time) as the bread machine mixes the ingredients. The most perfectly mixed dough can be smoothed with a spatula if you so desire. Mixing all the ingredients properly is where most beginner bakers make the most fatal mistakes. Use the spatula to check the dough during the mixing process to make sure all the ingredients are now incorporated as one.
After the bread machine has done its job of mixing the ingredients to your satisfaction, use your rubber spatula to smooth the top. You can now sprinkle any desired toppings on top of the loaf, before closing the lid for baking.
After baking is completed, it’s wise to test the temperature of the loaf interior before removing it from the pan. The temperature should hover around 205-210º F. If you find that the temperature is way below that number, you can add time to your bread maker as another bake cycle. You do not want it to do a full bake run, so it’s better to test the temperature every 5 to 6 six minutes.
Just a word of caution, if you’re using the time delay option on your best bread machine, checking the temperature might not be appropriate as the bread maker might have stopped several hours before you checked the loaves. From my experience and observation, most modern bread machines that are fairly new, would get the baking done properly the first time around.
Sandwich Bread Baking Directions for those with a Regular Oven:
For this to come out the right way, you must at least have a stand mixer. While you can mix all the ingredients using a whisker and elbow muscles, better results would be achieved with the aid of a stand mixer.
First put the milk powder, flours, baking soda, salt and baking powder in a large bowl and then whisk them thoroughly together.
Now in the mixing bowl of your stand mixer, add all the liquid ingredients and mix them together while slowly adding the mixed dry ingredients. Depending on the type of the stand mixer you’re using, it’s better to use the paddle attachment as the mixer agent. Once the ingredients are all together, you can add the sugar and the yeast granules, and beat well for another 2-3 minutes.
The dough right now should be ready for your baking pan. If you find the dough too thick, you can add tablespoon of yogurt, one spoonful at a time as the mixer continues to mesh-up the ingredients. When you find the dough can be smoothed with a spatula, that means it’s ready for the baking pan.
Your bread baking pan should be well oiled. Just scoop the mixed dough into the bread pan.
Now you can smooth the top while adding any desired topping. I have tried baking without using any cover with varying results. Some would suggest using wax paper that’s sprayed with cooking oil or a damp clean towel. My preference would be to use a bread baking pan that comes with a suitable cover.
Next you need to seat the covered dough for about 30-40 minutes in your oven preheated to 200º F and then turned off. Simply means, preheat your oven to 200º F, leave the covered dough inside while you turn-off the heat to the oven.
If you have a convection oven set the baking heat at 275º F, and if you have a regular static oven set the heat at 300º F. Remove the cover from the raised dough in the bread pan before placing it inside the oven. Let it cook for about 60 minutes, or until you notice the crust has turned brown. The internal temperature of the completed loaf should be 205-210º F, and it should be tested.
You can now gently remove the loaf from the pan and place it on a flat container to finish cooling. You can now use a best Bread Knife to slice your loaf. Enjoy!
